AO3 Chapter Update Embed Settings

Use the Chapter page in Archivist’s /settings command to choose what appears in Archive of Our Own (AO3) chapter embeds in your Discord server. You need the Discord Manage Server permission to change these settings.

Open a chapter settings form

On the Chapter page, choose Fields, Tags, Thumbnail, or Inactivity to open that section’s form. Change the options, then select Submit to save your changes or Cancel to close the form without submitting. Select Reset Chapter to defaults to restore the Chapter settings.

Visible chapter fields

Choose which details appear in the chapter embed. Uncheck a field to hide it:

• Words: The chapter’s word count. The work’s total word count appears in brackets.
• Chapters: The published chapter count and total chapter count.
• Rating: The AO3 content rating, such as Mature or Explicit.
• Published: When the work was first posted.
• Updated: When the work was last updated.
• Status: Whether the work is complete or in progress.
• Warnings: The work’s Archive Warnings, if any.
• Summary: Adds a Summary tab with the chapter’s summary. Long summaries are split across pages.
• Notes: Shows the chapter’s beginning and end notes. If a Summary is available, the notes are combined with it; otherwise, notes appear in their own tab.

Chapter tags

Choose which tag groups appear in the chapter embed. Uncheck a group to hide it:

• Fandoms: Fandoms the work belongs to.
• Relationships: Tagged relationships.
• Characters: Tagged characters featured in the work.
• Additional Tags: Freeform tags added by the author.

Set a maximum length for each tag group separately: Fandoms, Relationships, Characters, and Additional Tags. Each limit can be from 1 to 1,024 characters. Text over the limit is shortened with an ellipsis (...). The Characters and Additional Tags limit fields are not visible in the screenshot, but are also available in the form.

Chapter thumbnails

Choose whether a chapter embed includes a small thumbnail. Archivist uses the chapter’s first embedded image.

• Show chapter thumbnail: Show or hide the thumbnail.
• Hide thumbnail on Mature works: Do not show thumbnails for chapters in Mature-rated works.
• Hide thumbnail on Explicit works: Do not show thumbnails for chapters in Explicit-rated works.

Inactivity

After five minutes without clicks, the chapter update embed is inactive. Use Default tab after 5 min inactivity to choose which tab the embed returns to: Stats, Tags, Summary, or Don’t reset.
